This project commenced as a modest renovation and evolved into a comprehensive reimagining of an existing family home. The brief called for a tailored response that accommodated contemporary living while addressing the constraints and opportunities presented by the existing built form and complex site topography.
Situated on a challenging parcel with significant fall and an existing structure in place, the design required a nuanced resolution of vehicular access and circulation. The driveway, in particular, posed geometric and spatial constraints, which were successfully addressed through careful site planning and sectional coordination.
Programmatically, the residence integrates a rich array of recreational and lifestyle elements, including a lap pool and full-size tennis court. The ground floor living zones are arranged to establish a strong relationship with the landscape, opening directly onto a covered alfresco space to encourage spatial flow and seasonal adaptability.
The upper level is articulated with a full-length balcony that runs adjacent to the main living space, providing visual extension and solar protection. Internally, exposed structural timber trusses in the upper-level living area celebrate the roof form while introducing rhythm and warmth to the interiors. Robust concrete block walls offer both thermal mass and tactile contrast, grounding the architectural language of the home.
A private terrace accessible from the master suite enhances the sense of retreat, while the composition of interior and exterior spaces reflects a holistic response to site, brief, and program. The result is a layered and contextually responsive dwelling that balances structural clarity with domestic intimacy.
